The Orthodontics

Do you dream of having perfectly aligned teeth and a captivating smile? Dr Ignacio Vargas can turn your dreams into reality. At America Dental, we believe in preserving as many of your healthy, natural teeth as possible to provide the foundation for a lasting smile. This is why we encourage the use of orthodontics to straighten misaligned teeth and improve jaw function.

In addition

In addition to traditional braces, we specialize in the use of Invisalign® aligners, a leading technology in orthodontic care. Invisalign is a series of transparent, plastic, retainer-like aligners that you wear over your natural teeth. Patients change to a new aligner every few weeks, allowing teeth to gradually straighten over time until a dazzling, straight smile is achieved. Invisalign offers many advantages over traditional braces. The aligners can be easily removed, allowing for quick cleaning, ease of eating, and the ability to go without wearing the aligners for a special event or meeting. Since Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, you can feel comfortable and confident while you create your perfect smile.

Care

Good oral hygiene is especially important when you have braces or other orthodontic appliances. Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes, flossing daily, and scheduling ongoing dental visits are all important to help keep the gums and teeth healthy. Patients with braces should maintain a balanced diet and limit sugary snacks between meals. Your dentist may recommend avoiding certain foods that could interfere with braces or accidentally bend the wires, such as nuts, popcorn, hard candy, ice and sticky foods, such as chewing gum, caramel or other chewy candy.

Any Age

Orthodontic treatments, particularly treatments using braces, are often associated with pre-teen and teenage years. While it’s always easier to start younger, straightening teeth is possible at older ages as well. If you think you’re too late, just remember: fewer dental problems and greater confidence often follow treatment. Early treatment for pre-teens and teenagers often begins with a recommendation from a dentist in the hopes that crooked or crowded teeth can be altered, enhancing orofacial appearance and eliminating future dental problems. Because of this, plans for braces will sometimes begin as early as age seven, when most children have lost the majority of their baby teeth. While braces are not actually applied until later, an early treatment plan acts as a record of dental growth and what potential problems can be eliminated through braces.
